Unbelievable isn't it? First of all there's the huge ponderous ceremony of slowly acknowledging the blindingly obvious, a cermony which will only conclude this Friday when the quarterly GDP figures are actually revealed.
But secondly, even if we weren't already in recession, we would certainly have talked ourselves into one, with various economic sages, such as the Governor of the Bank of England, apparently relishing their roles as purveyors of hyper-gloom.
I thought we were supposed to be less happy than other nations with less wealth, so I guess this recession should make us all much happier again.
Yes Jim, I remember candles and darkness - I am rather looking forward to it in a way. Maybe the art of conversation will revive.
Exactly, Gordon. We're going into one, it's already started, we'll be in one next week... the bubble has burst, at the brink of the abyss, we're all doomed, zero growth, grim few years...
Still the earth warms and the oceans rise. Maybe less growth would be good.
