Last Drink Bird Head
I am delighted that my 'piece of flash' is going to be included (with some great company) in the Last Drink Bird Head anthology edited by Jeff and Ann VanderMeer.
What would you write with the words 'Last Drink Bird Head' for inspiration? The results are many and extraordinarily various. There are more details about the book here. It will be launched in San Jose at the World Fantasy Convention in October.

It looks very surreal.
Also - I have been given the Kreativ Bloggers Award and thought you might like one as well.

Certainly is, Al! :-) And thanks very much for the award, that's very kind.
How awesome Clare!!!! I am almost tempted to try my hand at what I could come up with using that great title! Just to see what would emerge. Congratulations!
I'd love to see what you come up with, Kay! I think I gave myself 15 mins.
Congratulations. Your blog has been nominated for a 2009 BBAW Award. If you would please email me your email address, I will send you a note about it.
Thanks.

The cover image reminds me of one of those bobbing bird things from the 80's, I think they were attracted by water, it was all a bit scientific I think. Perhaps that's what the cover is meant to be? perhaps I have no idea what I'm talking about!
I think we have one of those! Ours goes down a pole under gravity - but maybe that's not what you mean. Until you'd said, jem I hadn't thought about this - it did look familiar though, I must agree.
I know the ones you mean Clare, those pole sliders, my grandmother had one. But I meant these - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drinking_bird
I'm sure as a scientist you'll understand the principle far better than me!!
Thanks Jem - this is fascinating! I'd never encountered one of these before, and yet I see it is quite famous. And you're right - I wonder if this is where the initial idea came from.
