Aubrey's Brief Lives

Arrived ten minutes this hour past. Old booke. It is, in truth, both yellow of page and has strong odour of must. Leaves are loose and intent on escape from their mooring. Although now antique, it has strident words, is writt with fluid hand and has enduring fame. I became acquainted with it when reading the fine wit of Master James Gleik in his manuscript within SEEING FURTHER and now am wont to seek mention of the good Colonel James Long, which he reported extraordinary facetious. I much value it.

'The New Aubrey' (a fictional book inspired by 'Aubrey's Brief Lives') features throughout Robertson Davies' wonderful novel 'The Rebel Angels' (Book 1 of 'The Cornish Trilogy').

I have never read any Robertson Davies, Richard, but just taken a quick look and they look really good, so thanks for telling me.
