This is just some of the 'problem'. There are similar piles elsewhere, and bookshelves taking over walls. Sometimes, I am not sure if they are part of a fortress or a means of escape.
Looks like what you really need is a Kindle or an iPad. I have to admit to having the same problem, we actually have a library and that's full to overflowing with books, and they are all over the house too. Our current system is to go through a shelf now and then and try to decide for each book if we will ever want to read from it or refer to it again. Meanwhile there are thirty books on my iPad that don't need shelf space, and I only got it 6 weeks ago.
I already have a Kindle, Rodgriff! I agree, long term it might help the situation, and it is wonderful to have books so readily to hand when you're on the go, but I also have to admit that I'm still not convinced that it is a substitute for the real thing. Given a choice I would choose the physical book, I think.
I do like the sound of your system though. It sounds an excellent one. I must try it too.
